General Information

Purpose:

As Christian parents, we feel that it is our duty to base our education on Biblical principles (Deuteronomy 6:5-7). All scriptural instructions regarding children are given to parents; we are challenged to meet this responsibility. Cornerstone Christian School wishes to support Christian parents in building a strong, moral foundation based on scriptural principles that will enable the child to meet the challenges and conflicts he will encounter in life.Cornerstone Christian School is a private school specializing in Independent Study for home educating Families. Thus, the school offers a framework within which the Christian family can successfully educate its children at home. We are here to encourage, uplift and edify you. We desire to be an agent in the strengthening of your abilities, while preserving your independence as a parent/teacher.Cornerstone Christian School is established as a private school with the purpose of providing accountability to homeschool families. It’s primary responsibility will be to provide the service of maintaining records and cums as a private school is required to do.

What is Independent Study?

Private schools operate under the provision of the California Education Code Section 48222 and in accordance, Cornerstone Christian School files a Private School Affidavit with the state each year. The California Department of education has made provision for independent study programs through CEC Sections 51745, 51746 based on SB 1591 (1976), SB 1501 (1976), AB 3202 (1979), and AB 3269 (1980). A case ruling has said, that which the state provides for public schools is allowable for private schools as well. Therefore, Cornerstone Christian School, established specifically to meet the needs of home education families, follows to the best of its ability the guidelines outlined by the state in its “A Manual of Operational Procedures and Curriculum Guide for Contract Independent Study (1981). While we are not legally required to follow these guidelines, the requirements are for the most part educationally sound and should not violate anyone’s convictions concerning the right to teach their own children. We believe if we follow these guidelines our position will be that much stronger. As a private school with independent study support, Cornerstone Christian School guides and monitors each family’s education program under an ISP Contract signed by the parents and the school’s administrator. However, each family is in control of the education of its children by choosing its own methods and materials.

Limitations:

Although Cornerstone Christian School is a boni fide private school with a Private School Affidavit on file with the State of California, Cornerstone Christian School cannot guarantee anyone protection from harassment from legal authorities or from legal prosecution (nor can anyone else), thus, the mandatory requirement to hold HSLDA membership. Cornerstone Christian School is merely for record-keeping accountability, social interaction, and educational opportunities. Therefore, Cornerstone Christian School cannot be held accountable for the outcome of any contact by authorities.
